Call for Nomination Opened for the UNESCO-Japan Prize on ESD

Dear Colleagues,

The UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) was established by the Executive Board at its 195th session, and officially announced at the UNESCO World Conference on ESD (10-12 November, Aichi-Nagoya, Japan). The first edition of the Prize is now launching a call for nominations.

The Prize honours outstanding efforts of individuals, institutions, organizations or other entities engaged in ESD activities. Generously funded by the Government of Japan, the Prize consists of three annual awards of USD 50,000 for each winner.

Nominations should be submitted to the Director-General of UNESCO by governments of Member States and non-governmental organizations in official partnership with UNESCO. It should focus on a specific project or programme of the nominee. Each government or non- governmental organization can make up to three nominations.

The deadline for nominations is 31 May 2015.

Therefore, I am inviting you to disseminate this information widely to your networks in order to give all potential candidates the opportunity to participate.

Le Prix UNESCO-Japon d’éducation en vue du développement durable (EDD) a été établi par le Conseil exécutif à sa 195e session, et annoncé officiellement lors de la Conférence mondiale de l’UNESCO sur l’EDD (10-12 novembre, Aichi-Nagoya, Japon). Pour sa première édition, le Prix UNESCO-Japon d’éducation en vue du développement durable fait actuellement un appel à candidatures.
Le Prix UNESCO-Japon d’EDD distingue les contributions exceptionnelles de personnes, d’institutions, d’organisations et d’autres entités engagés dans les activités de l’EDD. Généreusement financé par le Gouvernement japonais, le Prix comprend trois prix annuels de 50 000 dollars des Etats-Unis chacun.
Les candidatures peuvent être présentées par les États membres et les organisations non gouvernementales en partenariat officiel avec l’UNESCO. Elles doivent se concentrer sur un projet ou programme spécifique d’EDD du candidat. Chaque État membre ou organisation non gouvernementale peut présenter jusqu’à trois candidatures.
Date limite pour déposer des candidatures : 31 mai 2015.

Competition for Biotech Startups in the Environmental, Agronomic and Industrial sectors

In collaboration with its partners, Genopole, France’s leading biopark, is organizing the fourth edition of its competition for biotech startups focused on the environment, agronomy and/or industry (excluding the medical sector).
This year, the competition is placed under the auspices of three French Ministries: Research, Industrial Renewal and Ecology and is sponsored by Chimex. A first prize worth € 90k will be awarded as well as two special worth € 45k.
The competition is intended for project holders or young startups looking to develop an innovation in these sectors. The laureate(s) will receive grants and/or services to aid the launch of their activities or the pursuit of their project development.
Genopole and its partners seek to favor the convergence of biotech innovations by regularly bringing together business creators, R&D leaders and economic stakeholders from France and the world over.

• November 2014 : Training seminar for preselected candidates “The path of business creator”

Call for students – Summer School in Istanbul and Koszeg – deadline 15 July

In the framework of the Anna Lindh Chairs for Intercultural Dialogue in the Euro-Mediterranean region programme, the ALF is selecting around 20 students to participate in:

–  The II Anna Lindh – La Caixa Chair Summer School at Sabanci University in Istanbul, Turkey, to take place from the 8th to the 12th of September 2014;

–  The two-day Workshop at the Institute for Social and European Studies, in Koszeg, Hungary, to take place in the first week of November 2014,

Applications should be received before 15 July 2014.
